Subsidized Training!

The CSIA Alberta Committee is committed to subsidizing the clinics in Alberta to further the training possibilities for CSIA Members in Alberta.  Please note that some of the Clinics have credits applied but this is not a recall for your national membership.  If it is your recall year please login at www.snowpro.com and complete the online recall information.

Registration For Clinics

Please register early as we need time to coordinate staff for these events.  Late registrations may not be accepted.  As these clinics are offered and subsidized by the Alberta Committee there are NO REFUNDS OR TRANSFERS.

Level 3 Prep

Are you considering getting your Level 3 certification?  Need some guidance in choosing the right modules to attain your 40 credits?  Interested in finding out how the exams work?

  • Identify the fundamental aspects of the Level 3 skiing and teaching standards.
  • Discussion on the various modules that can be used to attain the required 40 credits.
  • Guidance for setting a training plan.
  • Education Credit Value: 3 Credits – Recommended for: Level 3 candidates – Prerequisite: Level 2

Short Turn

 Looking to improve your short turns?  Are you preparing for your next level of certification?

  • Identify and work towards the short turn standard for the candidates next level of certification
  • Develop skills needed to be successful in short turns
  • Education Credit Value: 2 Credits – Recommended for: All Levels

Carving Clinic

Also known as advanced or expert parallel, this clinic focuses on helping you get your skis on edge like you never knew you could.

  • Develop the skills to successfully edge the ski in a larger turn
  • Improve lateral stance and balance
  • Identify and work towards the advance/expert parallel standard for your next level of certification
  • Education Credit Value: 2 Credits – Recommended for: All Levels

Skills and Drills

Not sure what drills relate to which skills?  Need help getting the outcomes you want from your students?

  • Develop an understanding of how drills are used to improve skills
  • Refine your “toolbox” of drills to be sure they get the desired outcome
  • Teaching focused clinic
  • Education Credit Value: 3 Credits – Recommended for: Open to all levels

Snow Park Trick Building Progressions

  • For those that are already in the park and want to develop progressions and skills for their tricks to develop.  Time is spent throughout the day to practice and understand the progressions to improve your own development as well as how you might teach the skills to others.
  • Education Credit Value: 2 Credits – Recommended for: – Prerequisite: Open to all levels

Project Y

  • Each snow school is asked to nominate their best male and female pro under 30 years of age. The nominees are then invited to attend these Project Y events so we can hear from them in regards to what they need and want from our Alberta Committee.
  • Education Credit Value: 3 Credits – Prerequitsite: Nomination from your Snow School Director
  • Register: Nominee’s will be contacted directly with event dates/times

Bumps for Confidence

  • Want to ski the bumps but not sure how to do that?  Does standing at the top of a pitch with bumps make you nervous?
  • Focus on applying the CSIA technique(how) you know in the bumps
  • Tactical approaches(when/where) that help you ski the bumps with less effort
  • Uses blue and black bumps at appropriate speeds for learning
  • Education Credit Value: 2 Credits – Recommended for: Level 2 & 3 Candidates, open to all levels

Bumps for Performance

  • Looking to push your bump skiing to the next level?  Are you preparing for the Level 3 or 4 exams?
  • Focus on black bumps at pushing towards advanced speeds.
  • Exam focus that ensures participants are working towards the desired technique and objectives needed to be successful.
  • Education Credit Value: 2 Credits – Prerequisite:  Participants should be comfortable in black bumps at intermediate speeds. – Recommended for: Level 3 & 4 Candidates, open to all levels

Pedagogy Practice

  • Practice teach to teach methods and a great way to better understand your own teaching method and learn from others doing the same.  Not often do we teach and explain why we do what we do.  This is what this is all about.
  • Education Credit Value: No Credits, Training Only – Recommended for: Everyone – Prerequisite: Open to all levels

Big Mtn Freeride Intro

  • Learn how the steeps are managed and step up your skills on the varied off piste terrain!
  • Education Credit Value: 3 Credits – Recommended for: Open to all levels
  • Education Credit Value: No Credits, Training Only – Recommended for: Those interested in challenging their off piste terrain choices. – Prerequisite: Level 2 minimum

Big Mtn Freeride Advanced

  • Not for the faint of heart but for those that want to go the extra step (or leap).  A day spent off  beaten track and how to safely challenge yourself in a variety of situations.
  • Education Credit Value: No Credits, Training Only – Recommended for: Skiers capable of skiing double black – Prerequisite: Familiarity with Big Mtn Freeriding

Corridor

  • This is Performance skiing training using a variety of Corridors to get your focus external versus internal. A full day of skiing pushing everyone’s personal limits.
  • Education Credits: 2 Education Credits – Recommened for: Everyone wishing to up their performance level of skiing. – Prerequisites: All Levels

Ski and Boot Tuning 101

  • A day of skiing and adjusting the fit and finish of the your boots and skis.  This is a hands on day for you to learn how and what to do to gain and maintain the best performance from your equipment. First we ski together to see how your equipment is working and then inside to sort boot fitting, back out to feel the adjustment made then the same with skis and the maintenance you can do yourself.
  • Education Credit Value: No Credits, Training Only – Recommended for: Everyone wishing to up their comfort and performance level of skiing.
