Lots is happening in Alberta this Spring.....

Races
For those of you who like to go fast, for those of you who like to laugh and for those of you  who  just plain like to ski, the Alberta Committee has scheduled three races:

March 26 - Friday evening – a night race at Norquay
April 24 – Saturday - at Marmot during Spring Fling

Modules
Albertans have been busy this year.  We have played in moguls, tipped our skis over in carving modules and trained up to improve our skiing and teaching. There’s more to come! A variety of modules are being offered mid-season at $25/person/all day session.  The CSIA Alberta Committee is subsidizing these modules... membership has its privileges. Take advantage of one or more of these great sessions.  Get in a full day with a current level 4 and move your game up a notch!

Up-coming Schedule
Bump Module - Sunshine Village Mar 21

Description
BUMP MODULE --- A day in the bumps tailored to your needs and speed.  This is a great session to tune up your skills in the bumps.

Here is a some feedback from a carving module which already took place (remember to check the website regularly for new information on modules which may be added as the season progresses).

"I am writing to give you some feedback on the VERY EXCELLENT 'CARVING MODULE' which I was able to attend...

We had 12 instructors registered and the total group was divided into 2 groups of six paticipants with Don Kjorven and Peter Smolik conducting the Module...

These modules with surely help me to keep my skills current and to improve myself and I would like to express my appreciation about the modest price per module..." BILL BEATON - CSIA LEVEL 2

PDP
Take advantage of a PDP this season!   Click here for dates and registration details.

PDP - Sunshine Village - Mar 7 - 9am or 1pm sessions
PDP - Spring Fling - Apr 24 - 10am session

National Member Representative
As some of you may be aware, Bryan Bursey who was our representative on the CSIA National Board has resigned. Bryan, who works for Imperial Oil as well as being a ski instructor, has been re-located to Texas.  We would like to thank Bryan for his hard work on the National Board and wish him and Jill all the best in there new location.  Hopefully, we will see them both on the slopes again soon. (We hear there's something called the "Texas Ski Council"...)

An online election to fill the vacancy left by Bryan will be held in May.  There are two candidates running for election Brian Rhodes and Vern Balding. Check your winter edition of Ski Pro for their profiles and make sure you vote for the candidate you feel is best suited for Alberta.

On a light note...

Part of the fun of skiing are the stories that are told afterwards. We thought we’d share some of our lighter moments with you...

• As one time President of the U. of S. Ski Club, I had a few goofy ski stories to pick from, but I think the one that got the most laughs was when I wore my fisher RC4 skis with marker bindings backwards in the Moguls. No I still do not own a pair of twin tips.” - Paul Schmidt

• On my 21st birthday, I had a fake lesson that deserved an Academy Award. The supposed student was a level 3 that used to work at the resort. Of course he did not tell me this and proceeded to fall over the rope-tow, into the shack at the bottom of the lift, spread eagle on his face, within inches of a parked snowmobile and in every conceivable manner that a totally spastic, uncoordinated first-time skier can do. Everything that I tried, he did the opposite and fell down. After 45 minutes he asked me if I would rather be somewhere else. My reply was “no, this is my job.” At which point the large audience hiding behind a mirrored glass window, came out with a very large Long Island Iced Tea. The rest of the night was much more enjoyable.  - Andrew Rusynyk

• My five year old daughter was skiing in the mountains for the first time. Though she had taken many lessons and handled Edmonton hills with aplomb, she kept complaining that day . “Icy, Icy” she kept saying. As we walked up the stairs to our condo at the end of the day, a stranger pointed out that her boots were on the wrong feet  - Ginny Holtby

• Ask Paul Thrasher about the time he got his head stuck in the gondola at Sunshine. Or ask Paul about the time he got stuck on the T-Bar in front of Guy Paulsen and the entire Silver Star Snow School...on his very first day as a ski instructor...EVER!
